Rockets Assign Fortson to Vipers

MCALLEN, Texas - The Houston Rockets today assigned rookie guard Courtney Fortson to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets' NBA Development League affiliate. The assignment marks the 62nd time an NBA player has been assigned to his NBA D-League affiliate during the 2011-12 season and is the first assignment for Fortson.

Fortson, who earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the Rockets from the Los Angeles D-Fenders on March 17, has appeared in five games for Houston this year, averaging 2.8 points, 1.2 rebounds and 7.2 minutes. During a previous stint in the NBA, Fortson appeared in four games for the L.A. Lakers. In nine total NBA games this season, he is averaging 3.4 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 9.1 minutes.

Prior to his call-ups, Fortson appeared in 29 games for the D-Fenders, averaging 17.0 points, 5.9 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 34.3 minutes.
