Belleville Senators News Release

The Laval Rocket grabbed a vital two points against the Belleville Senators Wednesday by taking a 2-1 decision in a North Division match-up.

The Senators lone goal came from Logan Brown while Filip Gustavsson turned aside 19 shots. Karl Alzner and Byron Froese scored for Laval while Charlie Lindgren made 20 saves.

The Rocket opened the scoring 8:36 into the first through a returning Alzner, who was playing in his first AHL game since the 2010 Calder Cup finals, as he wired a one-timer from the left-side boards after a strange bounce on a dump-in.

With the Senators on the power play after Michael McCarron took an unnecessary roughing penalty on Francois Beauchemin, Brown's wrister from the left slot tied the game at 17:54 as he took advantage of a cross-ice pass that hit the boards to fire home his second goal of the season.

The only goal in the second was scored by the Rocket as Daniel Audette forced a turnover behind the net on Patrick Sieloff before centering to Laval captain Froese who roofed his seventh of the season at 14:15.

In the third period where the Senators outshot the Rocket 8-3, they never came particularly close to finding the tying goal as the Rocket's victory tied the season series at 1-1.

Belleville returns home for a four-game homestand that starts Friday night against the Utica Comets. Tickets are available.
