Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Green Bay Rockers won their fifth straight game Wednesday night, taking down the Wausau Woodchucks 6-1 at Capital Credit Union Park.
The Rockers now improve to 19-13 in the second half this season while the Woodchucks now drop to 19-13 themselves, heading into the final four games of the regular season.
After both teams went scoreless in the top of the first, the Rockers brought home the first run of the game on a hit-by-pitch in the second inning, giving the Rockers an early 1-0 lead at home.
Kyle Jungers struck out all three batters in the top of the third, recording six strikeouts in the first three innings and keeping the Woodchucks off the board through three innings of play.
In the bottom of the third, Matt Scannell hit his seventh home run of the season, with this one being a solo shot over the right field wall, extending the Rockers lead to 2-0 heading into the fourth.
The Rockers scored once more in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Brayden Hazelwood as the Rockers led 3-0 approaching the fifth at Capital Credit Union Park.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jake Mastillo launched a three-run home run over the right field wall, as the Rockers extended their lead to 6-0 after five innings.
In the sixth, the Woodchucks scored their only run of the game on an RBI groundout to make it a 6-1 ballgame, but the Woodchucks would not score the rest of the night as the Rockers coasted to their fifth straight victory.
After Jungers pitched the first five innings, Luke Hoskins pitched three innings of relief out of the bullpen and gave up just one unearned run to keep the Woodchucks off the board through the later innings.
Jacob Young pitched the ninth inning scoreless to seal the deal for Green Bay, handing them the third win of the five-game home stand.
