Rockers Add Two Pitchers for Stretch Drive

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The High Point Rockers have acquired a pair of pitchers as they battle to win the Atlantic League's South Division second half title. Reece Karalus and Tyler Garkow have both joined the Rockers.

Karalus, 27, was acquired after he pitched for the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League this season. Karalus was 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA out of the bullpen. Karalus appeared in 34 games and made one start while earning four saves. He recorded 56 strikeouts in 43 innings of work.

Karalus, 31, a native of Seattle, Wash., pitched collegiately at Santa Clara University where he was a first team All-West Coast Conference reliever. He had 11 saves in 204 and nine in 2015 and earned a win in relief over No. 1 Vanderbilt by striking out the side in the ninth inning of a Feb. 14, 2015 victory. Karalus was an eighth round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2015 MLB Draft and pitched at Class AA Montgomery in 2018.

Garkow, 31, worked as a starter for Sioux Falls in the American Association this season. He was 6-9 with a 4.97 ERA in 20 starts and struck out 114 in 116 innings of work. Garkow pitched at Point Loma Nazarene in San Diego and has spent his entire career in independent baseball. This will be his first time in the Atlantic League after having previously pitched in the Frontier League, Can-Am League and Pacific Association.
