While a two-goal third period drew the St. John's IceCaps to within a goal of tying things up, the Marlies held on to edge the IceCaps Friday night at Mile One Centre. Sam Carrick scored the game-winner, while Petter Granberg and Peter Holland potted the other tallies for the Marlies. Drew MacIntyre turned aside 27 shots to earn the victory.
Kael Mouillierat and Andrew Gordon - leading the third-period comeback for St. John's - scored for the IceCaps. Eddie Pasquale stopped 34-of-37 in a losing effort.

Adam Lowry scored two goals and assisted on another to help the IceCaps to a shootout victory over the Marlies Saturday night at Mile One Centre. Kael Mouillierat scored the game-winner in the shootout, while Patrice Cormier and Carl Klingberg had the other goals in regulation for St. John's. Eddie Pasquale was strong between the pipes, making 35 saves - on top of stopping 3-of-4 in the shootout - and Brenden Kichton pitched in with two assists. Drew MacIntyre turned aside 22 shots in taking the loss.
All-Star Classic Contest:. The AHL, IceCaps and the provincial Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation have partnered to host an all-star social media contest. The winner will receive round-trip air transportation, accommodations and two tickets to the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Assante Wealth Management. There will be four chances to win from January 14-23. Simply locate a post on the St. John's IceCaps Facebook page (www.facebook.com/stjohnsicecaps) to define a unique word from the Newfoundland Dictionary.
Fans need to guess the meaning of that word in the comments section to enter. There are no wrong answers - everyone who participates qualifies.
Goalie Switch: Earier this week, the IceCaps recalled netminder Michael Hutchinson from the Ontario Reign of the ECHL. Hutchinson had been tearing up the league with a 22-4-2 record, 2.08 goals against average and .921 save percentage. He also suited up for one game with the IceCaps this season. To replace Hutchinson, the IceCaps dispatched rookie goalie Jussi Olkinuora to the Reign.
