TODAY'S GAME: After a pair of 3-1 losses in yesterday's double dip, the Red Wings will look to right the ship in game 3 this afternoon (1:05 p.m.) against the Columbus Clippers (Indians) at Frontier Field... Rochester is just 5-8 since their season-high 4-game winning streak, April 24-27, and have fallen back into last place in the North Division -- 9.0 games back of Buffalo and Pawtucket... Meanwhile, the Clippers have won 3 straight and 6 of 10 overall and sit in 2nd place in the West -- 5.5 games back of IND.

WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS...:

-Will avoid losing 4 games in a row at home for the first time this season and for the first time since 8/17-8/22/12... Last year, the Wings longest home losing streak was 5 games (2x).

-Will avoid losing a series for the first time since dropping 3 of 4 to SWB at Frontier Field 4/15-4/18

-Will snap a 3-game losing streak -- their longest since a season-high 7-game skid 4/11-4/17

MORE ABOUT YESTERDAY...:

-The Wings were swept in a doubleheader for the 2nd time this season (4/13 @ PAW) after only being swept once last season.

-Strangely, the Wings surrendered 3 more 6th inning runs in doubleheader games, bringing their season total to 18 runs allowed in the 6th inning over the first 6 twin bill games of the season.

-Thanks to Chris Colabello's 5th inning RBI double, the Wings have now recorded an extra-base hit in 20 straight games.

VS. THE CLIPPERS: Rochester has now lost 3 straight to the Clippers dating back to the series finale in Columbus last Sunday after winning 2 of the first 3 games between the two clubs this season... In the previous series which was split (2-2), Rochester hit .271 as a team and cranked out 7 HR at Huntington Park while the pitching staff posted a 3.71 ERA (14 ER/34.0 IP) in the series... The Red Wings won the 2012 season series against Columbus 6-2 -- including taking 3 of 4 from the Clippers at Frontier Field. The Red Wings season series win in 2012 was their first against Columbus since 2009 when they went 5-3. Since 2003, Rochester is now 41-45 against Columbus including a 19-22 mark at Frontier Field.

-In 6 games vs. COL this season, Chris Colabello is 11-for-23 (.478) with 5 extra-base hits (4 doubles, 1 HR) and 5 runs

WINGS THINGS: Red Wings DH Jeff Clement is beginning to find his groove at the plate. He now as 4 multi-hit games in his last 7 starts after recordnig just one multi-hit effort over his first 19 starts of the year... Over his last 7 starts he his hitting .296 (8-for-27) with a double, 2 HR and 5 RBI... Last night, Wings OF Brian Dinkelman broke out of his Frontier Field hitting slump going a combined 3-for-7 with a home run. In his first 9 games of the season at home, Dinkelman was just 2-for-25 (.080). He has been much better on the road batting .277 (13-for-47) with 6 extra-base hits... Rochester 1B Chris Colabello continues to be the one constant in the Wings starting lineup as he is the only player to start every game so far for the Wings this season. In the first 36 games of the season, just once has he gone 2 straight games without notching a hit (4/15-16)... In fact, he has recorded a hit in 78% of the Wings games this season (28 of 36).

SETTING THE BAR: Red Wings reliever LHP Caleb Thielbar has been the most consistent Red Wings reliever of late after his 2.2 shutout innings in game one last night behind Samuel Deduno. Since allowing 5 earned runs in an outing for the first time since 5/21/10 (Wisconsin, A), Thielbar has responded by allowing just one hit in 8.1 scoreless innings over his last 5 appearances dropping his ERA over 2 full points from 6.60 to 4.24... On the season, he also has the best SO/9 inn. ratio on the team (12.0; 31 SO/23.1 IP)... He has been lights out at home, allowing just 2ER in 10.1IP (1.74 ERA), compared to 9ER in 10.1IP on the road (7.84).

WONDERFUL WALTERS: Today's starter RHP P.J. Walters has been on fire of late. After starting the year 0-2, 6.46 ERA (11 ER/15.1 IP) in his first 3 GS, Walters is 3-0, 2.08 ERA (6 ER/26.0 IP) in his last 4 GS... This afternoon, Walters will be making his first start at home since tossing a CG-SHO on 4/21 (2) vs. PAW -- the first CG-SHO of his career... Walters has fared better the deeper into games he goes. In the first three innings of games this season, Walters has an ERA of 5.14 (12 ER/21.0 IP), however he has posted a 2.21 ERA (5 ER/20.1 IP) from the 4th inning on.

-Walters last start came in the 16 inning game on Tues where he recorded his 4th straight "quality start" (6 ip, 2 er) while striking out a season-high 8 vs. TOL.

RISP TROUBLES: In Saturday's doubleheader the Wings went 3-for-21 (.143) with RISP and left a combined 22 men on base in 16 innings of baseball. The 14 runners LOB in game one tied a season high (4/6 vs. BUF)... Hitting in the clutch continues to be a problem for the Wings as their team average with RISP has dipped to .185 (60-for-325) on the year.
