GAME #78 - ROAD GAME #40 - 7:05 P.M.

ROCHESTER RED WINGS (36-41) at LEHIGH VALLEY IRONPIGS (43-33)

RHP BRENDAN WISE (2-1, 4.43) vs. RHP MATT WRIGHT (0-1, 3.31)

AIN'T NO VALLEY LOW ENOUGH: The Rochester Red Wings tonight open a 4-game series and roadtrip at Lehigh Valley (Phillies), making their 2nd of 3 visits to Coca-Cola Park. The Red Wings were swept in a 2-game series April 14-15 and will return here for another 2-game set August 12-13. After 4 with Lehigh Valley tonight-Friday, Rochester will return home for a 2-game series against the Empire State Yankees Saturday-Sunday. Then it's back on the road for a 2-game set at International League North Division-leading Pawtucket (Red Sox) Monday-Tuesday.

a The Wings tonight return to IL North Division action, beginning a stretch of 14 straight games against division rivals leading into the All-Star Break, including 3 more vs. Lehigh Valley July 7-8.

a The Wings yesterday wrapped up a stretch of 40 consecutive games against teams outside the division, going 22-18. Rochester's first 27 games were against only IL North teams, and it went 14-23 in those contests.

ROSTER NEWS: Right-handed relief pitcher Luis Perdomo today was transferred to Triple-A Rochester from Double-A New Britain. The 28-year-old went 4-4 with 2 saves and a 2.75 ERA in 26 games with New Britain. He posted 43 strikeouts and 16 walks in 39.1 innings and did not give up a home run. Eastern League opponents hit just .191 against him.

a Tonight's originally-scheduled starter, lefthander Matt Maloney, was placed on the 7-Day Disabled List with a strained left eblow. Righthander Brendan Wise will take his place, making his 3rd spot start of the season.

a The Twins yesterday recalled lefthander Tyler Robertson. The 24-year-old is the 10th Red Wing to get a promotion to the Twins, the 3rd for his major league debut. Shortstop Brian Dozier and righthander Cole De Vries are the other 2. Robertson went 2-2 with 2 saves and a 3.77 ERA in an IL-leading 33 appearances.

STAYING AFLOAT: The Red Wings are 27-25 beginning May 3, playing better than .500 baseball for more than a 3rd of the season. More recently, Rochester is 22-18 beginning May 15. Also, since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 following a 4-1 loss at Charlotte (White Sox) May 28, the Red Wings are 16-11 in their last 27 games.

a The Red Wings are 14-10 in June and have posted their most wins in a calendar month since going 17-15 in August 2009. The Wings need only one victory in their last 5 contests of June to register their first winning record in a calendar month since August 2009 as well.

a Rochester has won more than 2 games in a row only once during its 22-18 run beginning May 15, a season-high 4-game winning streak June 6-9. (The Wings also had a 4-game winning streak May 3-5.)

HOMESTAND RECAP: The Red Wings are coming off a 4-4 homestand, losing 3 of 4 vs. Durham (Rays) before winning 3 of 4 vs. Charlotte. The Wings were outscored 34-18 and outhit 65-38 against Durham. They then outscored Charlotte 19-9 and outhit the IL South Division leaders 34-28.

a The Wings yesterday completed their 3rd season series and are unbeaten in all 3. They went 5-3 against Charlotte, 6-2 against Louisville (Reds), and a 4-4 against Gwinnett (Braves). The only team Rochester has yet to face is Toledo (Tigers), which pays a visit to Frontier Field immediately following the All-Star Break July 12-15.

BUMPY ROAD: The Red Wings are just 10-21 in true road games, a total that doesn't include a 4-4 mark as the "road" team against Empire State at Frontier Field. Rochester did go 4-4 on its most-recent roadtrip June 9-17, losing 3 of 4 at Indianapolis (Pirates) before winning 3 of 4 at Louisville. The 4-4 trip was first the Red Wings' first non-losing roadtrip since July 22-29, 2011, when they went 4-4 at Indianapolis (1-3) and Louisville (3-1).

a Rochester hasn't had a winning roadtrip longer than 2 games since April 17-21, 2011, when they went 3-2 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barres (1-0) and Buffalo (2-2). That roadtrip was shortened to 5 games from 6 after the series opener at Scranton was rained out.

a The Red Wings have a 5.20 ERA (150 ER/259.2 IP) in 31 true road games in 2012. They have a 3.10 ERA (139 ER/403.0 IP) in 46 games at Frontier Field. The Wings are 26-20 at the downtown ballpark, and they are unbeaten in 10 of their 13 series there, going 6-3-4.

SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE: The Red Wings rank last in the IL with 266 runs scored, 23 shy of the next closest team Lehigh Valley, which has 289. The Red Wings, however, have scored more than 5 runs 6 times in 24 games in June. Rochester scored more than 5 runs only 7 times in 53 games in the season's first 2 months.

WHAT A COKE: The Red Wings enter tonight's game at Lehigh Valley's Coca-Cola Park with a 15-game losing streak in Coke-themed ballparks. They have a 6-game losing streak at Coca-Cola Park and a 9-game skid at Buffalo's (Mets) Coca-Cola Field. The Wings were last victorious at Lehigh Valley's Coca-Cola Park May 29, 2011, a 6-2 triumph behind Kyle Gibson's 7.2 innings of 2-run ball.

a Rochester's 9-game losing streak at Buffalo is its longest current skid against an opponent on the road. The Wings last won in Buffalo in the 2nd game of an April 19, 2011 doubleheader, a 2-0 triumph in 7 innings. The Red Wings return to Coca-Cola Field August 25-28.

SETTING THIELBAR HIGH: Red Wings' lefthander Caleb Thielbar was promoted to Triple-A Rochester from Double-A New Britain on Wednesday. The 25-year-old was signed by the Twins last August out of St. Paul (MN) of the independent American Association, becoming the first player ever signed by the Twins from the Saints. (Righthander Dan Sattler became the 2nd player signed by Mthe Twins May 29, 2012.)

a Thielbar has appeared in 3 games with the Red Wings for his Triple-A debut, allowing one run on 4 hits and 3 walks in 4.2 innings.
