Robin Fraser Selected as Finalist for Sigi Schmid Coach of the Year Award
November 15, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release
In his three seasons at the helm, head coach Robin Fraser has taken the Rapids to new heights. A former Rapids player himself, Fraser has led the team to a playoff berth for the last two years and recorded 12 shutouts and a 12-game unbeaten streak in 2021 alone. Since taking over the manager position in August 2019, he leads all Rapids head coaches in club history in wins (30), points earned (104) and goals scored (98).
In addition to the impressive attacking force he's led since taking charge, Fraser's defense has recorded the fewest goals conceded (61) and clean sheets (17) in franchise history.
Fraser has also accomplished what no other Rapids coach has in club history--securing a top-seed finish in the Western Conference to launch his team into a home-field advantage throughout playoff competition. After their commanding 5-2 win over LAFC to finish atop the West, the Rapids recorded a club-high 61 points in the regular season, the most in franchise history.
From starting out playing in the American Soccer League with the Colorado Foxes, to coaching various MLS teams to eight playoff berths and two MLS Cup wins, and finally returning home to Colorado to lead the Rapids, Fraser's illustrious career came full circle with the conclusion of the historical 2021 regular season. Despite his nomination and selection as a finalist for the league's highest award, he credits his team for the success he's led them to.
"It took a while to get back to being a head coach and but to land here with this group of players, I feel really fortunate," he said. "And I keep pushing them and they just keep working. I keep demanding of them and they just keep meeting expectations and to have won the West, I'm incredibly, incredibly proud of the team."
