
Roberts, bats power Amarillo to 14-3 win; Series even 1-1

EDINBURG, TX - The Amarillo Dillas were in a must-win situation against the Edinburg Roadrunners, and on just three days rest, Dillas starter Ralph Roberts got the job done while the Amarillo bats exploded offensively for a 14-3 win on Wednesday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The win ties the best-of-three 1st-round playoff series 1-1 with the deciding game three in Amarillo on Thursday night.
Roberts (1-0) got the win, allowing only one earned run through six innings while striking out four. Roadrunners starter Tim Haines (0-1) got the loss as he was chased in the big fourth inning.
The Dillas took the lead in the third as Keanon Simon doubled to lead off, followed by a Stantrel Smith two-run homerun. Terrance McClain singled with two outs, followed by a Trent Lockwood double to put two runners on. Angel Reyes followed with a single to score both runners to give Amarillo a 4-0 lead.
Amarillo added more in the fourth as Justin Wenger led off with a single, followed by a Willie James single and a Simon bunt single to load the bases. Smith stepped up a flared a single over the second baseman to score Wenger. Carlos Figueroa followed with a walk to score James. Terrance McClain followed with a two-run double to score Simon and Smith. McClain would come across the plate on a wild pitch while Reyes would score on an RBI double by Eric Brown. Brown scored on an RBI single by Wenger, his second hit of the inning for a seven-run inning and an 11-0 Dillas lead.
Edinburg scored their first runs in the fifth as Hector Garanzuay singled and advanced on an error to score two base runners for an 11-2 score.
In the seventh, the Dillas added on more runs as Brown and Wenger hit consecutive singles, followed by a James RBI single to score Brown. Back-to-back groundouts scored both Wenger and James for a 14-2 Amarillo advantage.
Dillas reliever Robbie Wooley allowed an unearned run in the ninth, but finished things off for a three-inning save to preserve the 14-3 win.
With the win, the Dillas tied the series 1-1 in the best-of-three first round playoff against the Roadrunners. Wednesday, Amarillo travels home to play the Roadrunners for the deciding game of the playoff series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
