Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - The United States Hockey League ("USHL") announced Monday that Justin Robbins of the Chicago Steel has been named USHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Feb. 25, 2018 (Week 21). Robbins stopped 51 of 53 shots over the weekend, including earning his first career USHL shutout on Sunday afternoon.
Robbins, 18, went 1-0-0-1 on the weekend, helping Chicago earn three of a potential four points, while posting a 0.97 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage. The Alpine, N.J., native denied 19 of 21 shots from the Green Bay Gamblers Friday, in addition to stopping two of three attempts in the shootout. On Sunday, Robbins stopped all 32 shots faced from the Central Illinois Flying Aces to record the Steel's first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory.
In 14 total appearances this season, Robbins has helped the Steel earn points in nine games, posting a 5-4-0-4 record. A product of the North Jersey Avalanche, with whom he won championships each of the past two seasons, Robbins made his USHL debut in one game for the Steel last season (Dec. 16, 2016), and is currently competing in his first full USHL season.
Robbins' award is the fourth weekly honor this season for the Steel. Graham Lillibridge was named USHL Defenseman of the Week on Nov. 6, 2017 (Week 5) and Jan. 22, 2018 (Week 16), and Blake McLaughlin was named USHL Forward of the Week on Jan. 15, 2018 (Week 15).
Waterloo's Jackson Cates was named USHL Forward of the Week, and Lincoln's Wyatt Aamodt, a member of the Steel's 2017 Clark Cup Championship team, was selected as USHL Defenseman of the Week.
March 2-4 marks the only three-home-game weekend for the Steel this season. Friday, March 2 is Innovation on Ice: A Power Play for Geneva Schools presented by FONA International as the Steel take on the Omaha Lancers at 7:05 p.m. The Steel will be wearing special Geneva Vikings jerseys to be auctioned off during the game to benefit the Geneva Academic Foundation.
