Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Calgary, Alberta - The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 17-year old defenceman Colby Robak will be representing the Western Hockey League club at the 2008 Home Hardware Top Prospects Game later this month.
This year's game will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd at Rexall Place in Edmonton, with the Skills events on Tuesday and will feature forty of the Canadian Hockey League's top draft eligible players.
A 6'3" 200 lb Gilbert Plains, Manitoba product, Robak was Brandon's fourth round selection (77th overall) in the 2005 WHL bantam draft and is currently in his second season with the Wheat Kings.
A member of last year's silver medal winning provincial team at the Canada Winter Games, Robak is projected as the eighth best North American skater by the National Hockey League Central Scouting Service's mid-season rankings.
Entering Wednesday night's game against the Warriors in Moose Jaw, Robak has four goals and 19 points in forty games this season. In two seasons with Brandon, the former Parkland AAA midget Ranger has six goals and 23 points in 79 career games
Surprisingly, one player not invited to participate in this year's game is 18-year old local product Matt Calvert. One of the WHL's top scoring rookies, Calvert is currently the fifth leading scorer on the second place Wheat Kings with fourteen goals and 36 points in 40 games. As well, he was recently chosen the club's Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month for December.
According to Central Scouting's Mid-Season report, Calvert is ranked 45th among North American skaters for the 2008 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Brandon enters Wednesday's game with a record of 26-13-0-1, good for 53 points and second place in the Eastern Division - one back of the front running Regina Pats - with four games in hand.
Following the game the Wheat Kings will return home to face Swift Current and Vancouver on Friday and Saturday nights respectively.
