EDINBURG, Texas----Edinburg starter Tim Haines threw eight strong innings allowing six hits and a run to lead the Roadrunners over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings by a score of 13-1 on Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Haines (3-1) cruised through the first inning and received the offensive support from his teammates with RBI singles by Carlos Hereaud and Osiel Flores gave the Roadrunners (11-12) a 2-0 after one inning.
In the second inning Cameron McGuire scored on a throwing error by the second basemen and Vincent Blue added an RBI double down the right field line that plated Amado German who reached safely on a bunt single down the third base line. RGV starter Juan Peralta (0-2) lasted 1.1 innings after allowing six earned runs on six hits. Gonzalez scored on a wild pitch off RGV reliever Juan Jimenez that made the score 5-0. Angel Reyes had an RBI single which plated Blue and made the score 6-0 after two innings.
Haines allowed the lone WhiteWings (10-13) run on a sacrifice fly by Agustin Septimo which allowed Justin Holloway to score.
McGuire hits his first homerun of the season in the bottom of the third inning that gave the Roadrunners a 7-1 lead.
Edinburg added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth after a throwing error and a fielders choice RBI which made the score 9-1.
In the bottom of the seventh the Roadrunners sent eight hitters to the plate and score four runs on five hits. McGuire's second home run of the night highlighted the inning for Edinburg.
Ricardo Serrano relieved Haines in the ninth inning and struck-out the side to end the ballgame with a final score of 13-1.
The Roadrunners will complete their four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (0-2) will face Jorge Lugo (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
