
Four run first inning propels Colts

San Angelo Colts News Release
Laredo, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (15-7) got out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, then added four more throughout the ballgame knocking off the Laredo Broncos(7-15). Drew Coffey collected his first win of the season and Jason Landreth added another multiple homerun game, as the Colts won 8-4.
Jason Diaz and Ronnie Gaines earned back to back walks in the top of the first inning. Bryan Frichter singled to left field as Diaz came into score as the Colts took a 1-0 lead. With Frichter and Gaines on second base, Jason Landreth laced a line drive over the wall in left centerfield handing San Angelo a 4-0 lead.
The Colts added two more in the third with a couple of solo shots. Landreth continued to put runs on the board with his second of the game, his fifth round tripper in four games. Two batters later Hunter Jobes drove a pitch right off the base of the scoreboard in right field. San Angelo held a 6-0 lead. The Colts added another two runs in the fourth as San Angelo had an 8-0 lead.
The Broncos would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Luany Sanchez led the inning off with a solo homerun. Three batters later, Jaime Morales homered to left as the Broncos trailed by six.
Starting pitcher Drew Coffey (1-1) earned his first win of the season. Coffey's efforts were complimented by Jacob Ramos who pitched the seventh, eighth, and ninth earning his first save of the 2009 campaign. Coffey worked six innings, allowing three earned while striking out two. In Ramos three innings, Jacob gave up two hits and a run. The losing pitcher was Gregorio Martinez (1-3).
As an offense, the Colts collected ten hits plating eight runs. The biggest contributor was Jason Landreth who drove in four runs, with three hits, including two homeruns (6,7). Hunter Jobes also homered (2), while adding a triple. Bryan Frichter continues to lead the league in average, who entered the game hitting .433, as he connected on three singles, contributing two RBI's and a run scored.
