Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

The Edinburg Roadrunners had a strong overall effort after two disappointing losses and avoided the sweep at the hands of the Jackson Senators with a 5-2 victory over the Senators on Thursday at Smith-Wills Stadium.

Edinburg rode the arm of Eric Montoya who was virtually untouchable in seven innings of work. Montoya (2-1) allowed just three Jackson hits and struck out eight Senators and walked only two.

Jackson starter Rust Camp also went seven innings but allowed six Roadrunner hits and three earned runs in the loss. Camp (2-3) would strike out six Roadrunner batters in the loss and walked only two.

Edinburg took the lead for good in the fourth inning with Anthony Angel at first and only one out Eddie Lara blasted a Jermaine Shack curveball over the outfield wall in left field to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 advantage.

Edinburg shortstop Marco Garza had a solid night at the plate as well. Garza finished with three hits in four at bats including an RBI single in the fifth inning that drove home centerfielder Cedrick Harris.

Edinburg, now five and eight on the road, travels to Pensacola to take on the Pelicans who split a series with Edinburg at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Frank James (1-3) is the scheduled starter for game one of the Pensacola series. Game time for Friday is set for 6:35 from Pelican Park.
