Aviators take series against Pensacola

ROBSTOWN, Texas – The Coastal Bend Aviators won game three against the Pensacola Pelicans 6-4 Thursday night at Fairgrounds Field. The win gave the Aviators a 2-1 series win.

With a full count, Carlos Figueroa got the Aviators first RBI of the game on a triple in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring Matt Mann from second base making the score 1-0. Kevin Henry added a RBI single in the inning making the score 2-0.

Trino Aguilar got Pensacola’s first RBI scoring George Branch from second base on his double to left field. Branch then came home on Bernard Caston’s RBI ground out. Joe Espada scored from second base on Figueroa’s error making the score 3-2.

Mike Guerrero got an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring Figueroa from second base to tie the score up at three. Jack Joffrion took the lead back for the Aviators hitting a two-run triple out to center field making the score 5-3. Joffrion then made it home on a passed ball.

Byron Batson (4-2) took the loss pitching 5.2 innings, giving up five earned runs and had seven strikeouts.

Matthew Rohr (3-2) picked up the win pitching seven innings, giving up eight hits and two earned runs. Shawn Morgan came in to close the game and loaded the bases before striking out Larry Bethea to pick up his fifth save of the season.

The Aviators are back at home on Friday to play game one of the four-game series against El Paso. The Aviators will be giving away logo baseballs at the park.
