Fort Worth Cats News Release

Danny Ozark, who played for the Fort Worth Cats in 1955 and later went on to manage the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants, will make an appearance at LaGrave Field on June 5 when the Cats host the San Angelo Colts at 1:05 p.m.

Ozark will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs. He'll also throw out the ceremonial first pitch. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Danny Ozark "Five in 55" baseball card, the second in a series of cards commemorating the five members of the 1955 Cats team who would later manage in the big leagues. That '55 squad also included Sparky Anderson, Dick Williams, Maury Wills and Norm Sherry.

Ozark was the Cats first baseman from 1953-1955 and posted three solid years in Fort Worth. In 1953, he batted .300 while slugging 23 home runs and driving in 89 runs. He followed that year in 1954 by hitting 23 more homers and knocking in 73 runs. As part of the 1955 squad, he batted .271 with 18 homers and 79 runs batted in.

He became the Phillies manager in 1973 and led Philadelphia to back-to-back 100-win season in 1976 and '77.
