Pensacola Pelicans News Release
Pensacola (14-10) welcomes the defending CBL Champion Edinburg Roadrunners (14-12) for a four game series at Pelican Park.
The two teams clashed last week in Edinburg, splitting a four game series. Edinburg opened with a 4-1 victory, holding the Pels to only six hits. Pensacola countered the next night with a seven run eighth inning in a 9-6 comeback win. The Pelicans opened game three with five runs in the first inning and cruised to a 12-2 win. The Roadrunners avoided losing the series, downing Pensacola 5-2 in the final game as the Pels managed only three hits.
Pensacola outfielder Juan Rocha was a menace to Roadrunner pitching, hitting .375 with a homerun, two doubles, and six RBI. Larry Bethea also had success in Edinburg, hitting .308 with one homer, a double, and three runs driven in. Jeff Norris and Byron Baston each had very effective starts versus the Roadrunners, giving up only a combined two earned runs over 15 innings.
Matt Spencer ripped the Pelicans pitching staff, hitting .444 with three doubles and six RBI. Anthony Angel, Eddie Fitzpatrick and Freddie Diaz also hit +.300 against Pelican pitching. Steven Wilkerson picked up two saves while not allowing an earned run in three appearances versus Pensacola.
