Roadrunners Win Ninth Against \'wings

EDINBURG, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners extended their win streak against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to nine games after a 6-3 victory Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of an attendance of 4,617.

Mark DiBernardo (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching eight innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out seven.

The Roadrunners (24-8) got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the third with a two-out RBI double by Wilmer Pino that drove in Robert Matlock from second making the score 1-0.

Ambiorix Concepcion started the bottom of the fourth with a single and then stole second base. After moving to third on a passed ball, Concepcion came into score on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Hereaud extending the Roadrunners lead 2-0.

The WhiteWings (14-19) tied the game at two with Joel Roa's two-run home run off of DiBernardo in the top of the fifth.

Edinburg answered back in the bottom of the seventh with Carlos Hereaud's seventh home run of the season making it 3-2 Roadrunners.

Yeurys Tejada tied the game at three in the top of the eighth with his second home run of the season.

In the bottom of the eighth, WhiteWings reliever Marcel Prado (0-1) walked Wilson Batista on four pitches and then hit Concepcion. After a double steal put runners at second and third, a passed ball allowed Batista and Concepcion to score. With two outs, Osiel Flores hit an RBI single giving the Roadrunners a 6-3 lead.

Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his 10th save of the season giving Edinburg the 6-3 victory.

The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will wrap up their series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Eric Montoya (5-1) is expected to face Misael DeJesus (0-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
