St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE, Utah (August 24) - With the Armada one out away from forcing extra innings, St. George's A.J. Valentine drove a ball up the middle to score the winning run in the RoadRunners' 6-5 win over Long Beach to split a double-header on Monday.

Valentine drove in his GBL-leading 77th RBI on the season, and Gary Harris slide under the tag of catcher David Ramirez for the winning run to trump what could have been a big Armada comeback.

Long Beach overcame a five-run hole, scoring five runs in the fifth inning capped by Omar Bramasco's three-run no-doubt homerun over the left-field wall to tie the game, 5-5. All five Armada runs were scored with two outs in the fifth inning, beginning with an RBI-ground out by Daryl Jones, his first RBI since July 18. Josh Womack doubled to score David Ramirez, and two batters later, Bramasco connected with a long ball.

RoadRunners starting pitcher Eude Brito held the Armada to just one hit through the first four inning, retiring 12 of 13 batters to begin the game, before giving up five runs in the fifth inning.

The RoadRunners got a pair of two-run doubles, one in the first inning and another in the second, as well as another run in the fourth off Armada starter Ben Fox to take an early 5-0 lead over the Armada.

Fox (5-7) took the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings, including three 1-2-3 frames while giving up six runs on seven hits.

Fox gave up consecutive singles in the first inning before Jose Rodriguez sliced a double into the right-field corner to score the runners. One inning later, Yosvany Almario doubled to bring in a pair of runs, giving the RoadRunners a 4-0 lead.

Long Beach begins a three-game series at Goodwin Field at Cal State Fullerton against the rival Orange County Flyers on Tuesday before returning to Blair Field on Friday, August 28 for four games against the Victoria Seals to finish the regular season.
