Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, Texas---- Edinburgs' (10-12) Robert Matlock had the walk-off double to lead the Roadrunners over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 6-5 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
It was the WhiteWings (10-12) that had an early lead courtesy of a bases loaded walk from Welins Baez off Edinburg starter Eric Montoya.
RGV continued with the scoring on a fielders choice by Kenny Hart in the third inning that gave the WhiteWings the 2-0 lead.
Jonathan Poterson drove in two more runs with a single to left center in the fourth inning off Montoya. Reliever Bryan Heaston came in to pitch three innings of scoreless baseball.
RGV starter Sendy Vazquez allowed a lead off single to Matlock in the fourth inning to start a Roadrunners rally with Bryon Smith driving in Matlock on a ground-out to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
Amado German reached on a single with two outs in the bottom of the fifth and after a wild pitch that moved German to second, an error by RGV's short-stop allowed German to score. Eric Gonzalez then walked, followed by an RBI single by Vincent Blue to bring the Roadrunners within one.
Edinburg trailed 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth when Matlock hit the walk-off double to get the 6-5 win over the WhiteWings.
Austin Bridges (2-1) pitched two and one-third innings of scoreless baseball and earned his second win of the season.
The Roadrunners will continue their four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on Saturday night at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (2-1) will face Juan Peralta (0-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
