Roadrunners Walk-Off against Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - Tim Battle delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the McAllen Thunder 4-3 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

With the game tied at three, Battle hit a single to center field with two outs that allowed Derek Perren to score giving the Roadrunners (16-12) the victory.

The Thunder (8-20) got on the scoring started in the top of the second when Manny Osborne hit an RBI single to center field allowing Nathan Thomasewski to score making it 1-0.

A wild pitch and a passed ball allowed Craig Hertler and Mike Demperio to score in the top of the third pushing the Thunder lead 3-0.

Edinburg got on the board against Frank James (2-2) in the bottom of the sixth. Stantrel Smith started the inning with a single and then he stole his 23rd base of the season. After a wild pitch moved Smith to third, he came into score on an RBI single by Vincent Blue. A throwing error then allowed Blue to score from third. With runners on the corners, the Roadrunners attempted a double steal and an errant throw allowed Carlos Hereaud to score tying the game at three.

Osvaldo Rodriguez got the win after pitching two scoreless innings in relief of Matison Smith who got the no-decision after seven innings pitched.

Frank James had a good outing for the Thunder but got the tough loss after allowing four runs, two earned, in eight and a third innings.

The Roadrunners begin a four-game series Friday night against the Fort Worth Cats at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Miguel Martinez (3-2) is expected to start with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
