San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- Back-to-back home runs in the ninth inning sealed a 9-7 victory for the Abilene Prairie Dogs over the Colts Thursday night at Foster Field.

Abilene left fielder Joe Weik and first baseman Kyle Nichols hit the homers off of Colts' reliever Chris Weast. Starter Brian Henschel (2-3) took the loss, as he gave up seven runs, four earned, on 10 hits in 6 2/3 innings. He also struck out two and walked one.

The Colts took a 4-1 lead into the third, thanks to a three-run triple by second baseman Jason Diaz. However, Abilene countered with three runs to tie the game. Weik, Nichols and shortstop Wilson Batista all scored in the third for the Prairie Dogs.

San Angelo knocked Abilene's rookie starter Shawn Kale out in the fourth inning, but reliever Braden Tullis was solid in relief. Tullis (2-1) allowed a run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings to earn the win.

The Prairie Dogs broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the seventh. From that point on, Abilene held the lead. The Colts were outscored 4-2 through the last three innings.

The loss drops San Angelo to 12-15, while the win improves Abilene to 13-14 on the year. This series continues Friday night at Foster Field. It will be Six-Pack Cooler Giveaway Night, sponsored by Pepsi.

The first 1,000 fans at the ballpark will receive a free six-pack cooler, courtesy of Pepsi. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
