San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts announced Thursday they have removed outfielder Rudy Wilson from the Inactive List and granted him his release. Wilson is moving on to play for the Rockford RiverHawks of the independent Frontier League.

Wilson was signed out of the Colts' open tryout on May 12, but he never played a game in San Angelo. Wilson was placed on the Inactive List on the day before Opening Night. The move to Rockford will allow Wilson to start every day in the outfield.

"If one of my players has the chance to get consistent playing time somewhere, I am not going to hold them back," Manager Doc Edwards said. "Rockford will be a good situation for Wilson."

The 20-year-old rookie is the son of former Major League outfielder and All-Star Glenn Wilson. Glenn was a first-round draft pick in 1980, and played ten years in the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Seattle Mariners, Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros. After his playing career, Glenn went on to manage teams in the now-defunct Texas-Louisiana League and Central Baseball League.

The Colts return to Foster Field Thursday night to continue their stretch of eight consecutive games against the Abilene Prairie Dogs. It will be another $1 Beer Night at Foster Field, sponsored by Miller Lite. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and gates open at 6:05 p.m.

The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
