Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

LAREDO, TEXAS ---- Pedro Flores out-dueled Tano Tijerina to lift the Edinburg Roadrunners over the Laredo Broncos 3-1 at Veteran's Field on Tuesday night.

Flores (2-3) picked up the win after he allowed one run and five hits while striking out six in six and a third innings pitched.

The Roadrunners (19-21) got their left-hander an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Bryon Smith that drove in Robert Matlock from second base.

Flores had allowed just one runner through the first four innings but in the bottom of the fifth inning the Broncos (14-26) got a runner past first after Luany Sanchez singled to left then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andres Santos. Jake Wells then hit an RBI single to left field that scored Sanchez to tie the game at one.

Edinburg regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Vincent Blue led the inning off with a walk and then stole second base. Carlos Hereaud drove in Blue from third with an RBI single to left field and with runners at first and second, a throwing error by Broncos' second baseman allowed Hereaud to score to make it a 3-1 game in favor of the Roadrunners.

Kelly Casares pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save of the season.

The Roadrunners have the day off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday night with the first game of a four-game series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings at 7:05 p.m. at the Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
