
First Inning Leads Broncos Over Roadrunners

LAREDO, TEXAS ---- The Laredo Broncos defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 6-4 with the help of a four run first inning Monday night at Veteran's Field.
Miguel Martinez (3-3) picked up the loss after he allowed six runs on seven hits in six and a third innings.
David Cardona and Mario Mendez hit solo home runs in the bottom of the first to get the scoring started against Martinez. Later in the inning, Robert Moron singled to right field which allowed Luany Sanchez to score from third and an error by the right fielder allowed Andres Santos to score from second to make it a 4-0 game after the first inning.
The Roadrunners (18-21) responded in the top of the third inning with a two-run home run by Eric Gonzalez that made brought the Edinburg within two with a 4-2 score.
In the bottom of the fifth inning an RBI single into center field by Sanchez allowed Mendez to score from second to extend the Broncos lead to 5-2.
B.J. Wheeler led off the top of the sixth inning with a double down the third base line and two outs later came in to score on an RBI single by Robert Matlock. Gonzalez then followed with an RBI single to left field that scored Matlock from second to make it a 5-4 game.
The Broncos (14-25) extended their lead to 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh inning after a throwing error allowed Argelis Nunez to score.
Will Palmer (1-0) got his first win of the season after he allowed four runs while scattering 13 hits in six innings pitched.
Frank Gracesqui pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his third save of the season.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the final game of this four-game series Tuesday night at Veteran's Field. Aaron Guerra (1-3) is expected to face Tano Tijerina (1-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
