Roadrunners Take Series from Cats

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Fort Worth Cats 4-3 with a walk-off suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 10th Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Roadrunners took three games of the four game series.

Travis Clark delivered the walk-off suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 10 th with the bases loaded to help the Roadrunners (23-28) take three-of-four from the first place Cats (32-20).

Chris Ellison got the scoring started in the top of the fifth with an RBI double that gave Fort Worth the 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners answered back in the bottom of the fifth against Cats' starter Coleman Stephens. With runners at second and third, Jordan Etier hit an RBI groundout that allowed Michael Haynes to score. Tim Maitland then followed with an RBI single to center field that drove in Brandon Spencer giving Edinburg the 2-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Cameron Monger hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Logan Brumley to score tying the game at two.

Fort Worth took the lead in the top of the eighth. With runners on the corners, reliever Alex Schmarzo was called for a balk that allowed Ellison to score giving the Cats the 3-2 lead.

Edinburg starter Mike Loeske took a no-decision after pitching seven innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits.

Maitland started the bottom of the eighth with a single and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Agustin Septimo. One out later, Maitland scored from third on an RBI infield single by Ryde Rodriguez tying the game at three.

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the 10th, Clark dropped down a bunt with the bases loaded that allowed Tim Maitland to score giving the Roadrunners the 4-3 victory.

Damien Seguen (3-1) took the win after pitching two-thirds of an inning while James Guilietti (2-2) took the loss for the Cats.

The Roadrunners hit the road for eight games when they face the San Angelo Colts and Rio Grande Valley White Wings, before coming back home on Thursday, July 25 when they return to Edinburg Baseball Stadium to face the San Angelo.
