Roadrunners Take Second Straight from Colts

EDINBURG, Texas - Tim Battle hit a go ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that lifted the Edinburg Roadrunners past the San Angelo Colts 6-4 Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Battle finished the game a triple shy of the cycle and gave Edinburg the lead for good with his fifth home run of the season that broke the 3-3 tie.

The Roadrunners (48-30) got on the board in the bottom of the second. They loaded the bases with three-straight singles and then Eric Bloom hit an RBI single to right field that scored Derek Perren. Two outs later, Vincent Blue walked with the bases loaded driving in Felix Molina making it 2-0.

Tim Battle led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to right center field and then moved to third on a ground ball. Luis Sumoza then followed with an RBI single that scored Battle that extended Edinburg's lead 3-0.

San Angelo (38-40) tied the game at three in the top of the fifth as they scored three runs off of Dave Dinelli. Cory Patton and Landon Camp each drove in a run in the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wilmer Pino singled to center and then stole second base. After moving to third on a ground ball, Pino came in to score on an RBI groundout by Perren. Molina followed with a walk that set up Battle's two-run home run that made it 6-3.

The Colts answered back with a run of their own in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Mark Ramos that scored Jason Crossland from second cutting Edinburg's lead 6-4.

Dinelli (5-8) pitched seven innings and allowed four runs, three earned, with six strikeouts for his fifth win of the season.

Rusty Jones and Robert Roth combined for a scoreless eighth and then Julio Castro pitched a perfect ninth for his 13th save of the season giving Edinburg the 6-4 victory.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play game three of their four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Jose Oyervidez (1-0) is expected to face Logan Williamson (7-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
