EDINBURG- The Edinburg Roadrunners pounded Rio Grande Valley starting pitcher Luis Noel for five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 6-1 lead en route to an 11-5 series-clinching victory Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

After Noel walked two and allowed a single and a wild pitch to put the Roadrunners up 2-1 in the second, Osiel Flores hit a 2-run double to right field with one out, then scored on former Rio Grande Valley second baseman Wilmer Pino's 2-run home run to left field to give Edinburg a commanding lead early.

McAllen native Jose Oyervidez allowed four runs in six innings to earn the victory that allowed Edinburg to sweep the series, 2-0, and advance to the United Division Championship Series.

Joe Weik also hit his second home run of the playoff, a solo shot in the fourth inning off Wander Perez to give the Roadrunners an 8-1 lead.

Edinburg, the United Division regular season champion with a 60-36 record will play at Fort Worth for two games on Friday at 7:05 p.m. before returning to Edinburg for the final three games of the series against the Cats, if necessary, on Sunday at 6:05 p.m.
