Colts Lose Game One to Cats

San Angelo, Texas --- The Fort Worth Cats hit a pair of three-run homers, and defeated the Colts 11-7 in game one of the first round of the United League Playoffs Tuesday night at Foster Field.

Second baseman Antoin Gray and shortstop Brandon Jones hit the home runs. Gray's came with nobody out in the third inning, and it gave the Cats a 5-3 lead. Jones's was with one out in the seventh, and it put Fort Worth up for good at 8-6. Jones led the league with 18 home runs in the regular season.

San Angelo scored in each of the first four innings and got home runs from left fielder Cory Patton and right fielder J.J. Sherrill. Patton finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Colts led Fort Worth 6-5 after the fourth. However, the Cats rallied for six runs in the last three innings.

Colts' starter Logan Williamson (0-1) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings. Williamson also struck out a game-high seven batters. San Angelo's bullpen failed to stop the bleeding, giving up three runs, two earned, on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Cats' starter Blake Nation exited the game trailing, but their offense allowed reliever Kane Holbrooks (1-0) to earn the win. Holbrooks gave up an unearned run on one hit in 2 1/3 innings.

This playoff series continues with game two Wednesday at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth. The Colts must win game two in order to avoid elimination. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and the game can be heard live on 1260 KKSA at 6:50 p.m.
