Roadrunners Power Past Colts

SAN ANGELO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners belted three home runs en route to a 9-3 victory over the San Angelo Colts Sunday night at Foster Field.

Eric Montoya (8-2) got the run support he needed to pick up his league leading eighth win of the season. He pitched six innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out three.

The Colts (33-30) got on the board in the bottom of the second against Montoya with a solo home run by Landon Camp making it 1-0.

The Roadrunners (36-23) answered back in the top of the third against Brian Henschel (4-6). Robert Matlock started the inning with a single and then came into score on a two-run home run by Alexis Hernandez, his ninth of the season. After a fielding error allowed Wilmer Pino to reach, Felix Molina hit the second two-run home run of the inning giving Edinburg the 4-1 lead.

Isaac Garcia started the bottom of the fifth with a single to center and then came into on an RBI triple by Mark Ramos. Ronnie Gaines followed with an RBI ground out that allowed Ramos to score making it 4-3 Roadrunners.

In the top of the sixth, Nelson Teilon hit a one-out single and then stole second base. Ambiorix Concepcion then hit an infield single putting runners on the corners. Wilson Batista followed with a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Teilon to score extending Edinburg's lead to 5-3.

With two outs in the top of the eighth, Teilon and Concepcion hit singles to center field. Batista followed with a three-run home run to deep center field extending the Roadrunners lead 8-3.

Edinburg added a run in the top of the ninth with a sacrifice fly by Molina that allowed Hernandez to score making it 9-3.

Ricardo Serrano, Aaron Guerra, and Austin Bridges combined for three scoreless innings of relief. Bridges pitched the final inning sending the Roadrunners to the 9-3 victory.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the final game of their four-game series Monday night at Foster Field. Mark DiBernardo (5-4) is expected to face former Roadrunner Brian Heaston (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
