
RoadRunners Pound Yuma to Take Series

YUMA, ARIZONA - The St. George RoadRunners scored the first nine and the final seven runs of Monday's Memorial Day game to rout the host Yuma Scorpions 17-6.
St. George improved to 3-1 on the year, its best showing after four games in the brief three-year franchise history.
Monte Mansfield allowed six runs over five innings while striking six to earn his first victory of 2009. Reliever Raymar Diaz threw the final four scoreless frames to earn the save.
The RoadRunners pounded out 19 hits including three home runs by Angel Sanchez (three-run in the second), Jose Rodriguez (three-run in the third) and Alexis Gomez (two-run in the sixth). Gomez finished with a game-high five RBI and tied for the team lead with three hits. Six other STG starters had two hits in the game.
Yuma catcher Carlos Del Rio had a homer and three RBI to lead the Scorpions.
The two teams will travel to St. George to begin a three-game series Tuesday night at Bruce Hurt Field. The RoadRunners are scheduled to start right-hander David Seccombe.

The RoadRunners kickoff their 2009 home schedule on Tuesday, May 26 against the Scorpions. Gates open at 6pm while a pre-game festival including face painting and entertainment from "Middle of the Road". American Idol Season 8 semi-finalist Taylor Vaifanua, from Hurricane, will sing the national anthem prior to first pitch at 7:00pm.
