Long Beach Armada News Release

EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Long Beach Armada (1-3) continues its season-opening 10 game road trip north of the border with a three-game series against the newly named Edmonton Capitals. Both teams won their respective 2nd half division titles and lost in the divisional playoff round in 2008. The Armada went 8-10 against the then-Edmonton Cracker Cats in 2008, with all 8 wins coming at home. The Fleet was 0-7 at Telus Field.

The Armada dropped the first game of 2009 to the Calgary Vipers, 4-0. Jose Lima pitched 8 innings giving up 6 hits, recording 6 strike outs without walking anyone. Long Beach got its first win the following night as Chad Miller hit a 3-run homerun in the first inning en route to a 10-9 Armada win. Miller hit another 3-run round-tripper in the third game of the series on Saturday in Calgary, part of a 7-run Armada 3rd inning. The Vipers retaliated with a 9-run 4th inning, and despite the Armada getting 2 runs in the top of the night, they stranded 3 in the final frame, losing 12-10 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Armada led 4-0 going into the bottom of the 3rd, but the Vipers tied the game at 4-4 with home runs by Terry Mermer and ehlandt Lentini in that frame. Long Beach's Casey Garrison put the Fleet back on top, 5-4, with a solo homerun in the top of the 4th, but the Vipers stormed back en route to a 14-8 win.

All three games in Edmonton will be broadcast live by Josh Feldman through Free Teamline accessible via www.longbeacharmada.com.
