Roadrunners Lose It Late

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners lost a three run lead late in the eighth inning as they fell to the Fort Worth Cats by a final score of 5-4 on Friday night at LaGrave Field.

Edinburg (33-34) got the scoring started in the first inning when Tim Maitland reached on a walk, then stole second, and reached third on an error. Travis Clark hit a single that scored Maitland to make it 1-0.

The Roadrunners continue the offense in the third inning when they added three runs which was highlighted by a Ryde Rodriguez and Maitland RBI singles which made it 4-0.

Fort Worth (41-26) responded with a run in the bottom of the third when Cameron Monger reached base and moved second on a single by Luany Sanchez single. Monger would reach third on a error then would score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Ellison to trim the deficit to 4-1.

After being scoreless for a few innings, in the bottom eighth the Cats had the bases loaded with one out when David Bergin launched a grand slam which was his 14th homerun of the season to give the Cats a 5-4.

Matt Redding (1-0) earned the win for the Cats as he threw one scoreless innings striking out two hitters.

Cullen Babin (3-1) took the loss for Edinburg tossing two-thirds of an inning, allowing an earned run on one hit.

Trevor Longfellow earned his second save of the season for the Cats, tossing a scoreless ninth inning preserving the victory. Thanks.

The Roadrunners will open a five game series starting with a double-header against the San Angelo Colts at Foster Field with the first pitch set for 6:05 pm.
