San Angelo Colts News Release

San Angelo, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts earned a come-from-behind, 7-5, victory in their series finale against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Friday night at Foster Field. San Angelo has now won a season-high seven consecutive games.

Designated hitter Miguel Alfonzo scored the go-ahead run in the fifth inning, courtesy of a sacrifice fly by catcher Bubby Williams. Alfonzo reached base on an error, advanced to second on a walk to left fielder Braden Embry, and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by third baseman Ryan Hutson. Williams followed with his sac fly that drove in Alfonzo.

The WhiteWings jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two innings, but were held scoreless from that point on. Colts' starter Eric Sheridan (6-3) allowed just four base runners through his final six innings of work. Sheridan gave up five runs on seven hits and struck out a game-high nine batters through eight innings for the win.

While Sheridan shut down the WhiteWings, San Angelo's offense got to work.

The Colts scored two runs in the third to cut their deficit to 5-4. Then right fielder Cody Hudson hit a game-tying, leadoff home run in the fourth inning. Hudson worked a 2-1 count and then smashed the next pitch down the right field line. It was his second career home run.

WhiteWings' starter Trent Evins (6-5) took the loss. He surrendered six runs, five earned, on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Colts' reliever Cephas Howard worked around two singles and pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his league-best seventh save of the year.

The win improves San Angelo to 34-32, while the loss drops Rio Grande Valley to 32-36. San Angelo begins a five-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners with a doubleheader Saturday night.

Saturday is Dr Pepper Giveaway Night, sponsored by Dr Pepper. There will be giveaways throughout both games, courtesy of Dr Pepper. Gates open at 5:05 p.m., and first pitch for game one is set for 6:05 p.m.
