
Roadrunners Fall to WhiteWings 6-5

EDINBURG, Texas---- Alberto Cruz hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (7-8) defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners (7-8) 6-5 Friday night at Harlingen Field.
Aaron Guerra allowed just two runs while scattering six hits in season debut. Guerra got the no decision after pitching five and two third innings and striking out six.
The Roadrunners got Guerra the lead in the top of the fourth inning. After Carlos Hereaud led the inning off with a double, Eric Gonzalez drove him in with an RBI single to right field for a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth inning the Roadrunners scored two runs on a two-run double by Hereaud that scored Osiel Flores and Robert Matlock to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Roadrunners' offense was not done yet. In the top of the sixth inning, RBI singles by Matlock and Vincent Blue drove in two more runs for a 5-0 advantage.
With the score 5-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Alberto Cruz gave the WhiteWings the victory with a walk-off grand slam for a 6-5 victory.
Raymond Silva (1-1) blew the save and picked up the loss after giving up four runs on one hit and walking three.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play the final game of this series Saturday night at Harlingen Field. Pedro Flores (0-1) will face Reymond Cruz (2-1) with the first pitched scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
