Colts Win 13-4

San Angelo Colts News Release


SAN ANGELO, Texas--- The San Angelo Colts (10-5) compiled 17 hits and 13 runs as they defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder (8-7),13-4.

It was in the bottom of the second inning, with a 1-0 lead where the Colts separated themselves from the Thunder. Nick Mahin and Hunter Jobes led the inning off with back to back singles. Butch Ballez would reach on a fielders choice, Nick Mahin would score on a throwing error from the shortstop Amadeo Zuzueta. Bradley Goldsmith then doubled to left scoring Jobes, Jason Diaz then followed with a single scoring Goldsmith pushing the Colts lead to 4-0.

Then in the third, Bryan Frichter would lead off the inning reaching on an error from the third baseman Leivi Ventura. Then Jason Landreth and Mahin would hit back to back doubles, the Colts would lead by six. Jobes and Hank Lanto would continue the third inning with two singles scoring Mahin and Landreth. At the end of three, San Angelo would lead 8-0.

The onslaught would continue in the sixth inning. It was an 8-2 ballgame as Ronnie Gaines led off the inning with a solo shot to left center field, his third of the season. Then Landreth singled and Mahin would walk. Landreth would then score on Jobes third single of the ballgame. Butch Ballez and Bradley Goldsmith then collected singles pushing two more runs across as the Colts lead became 13-2.

It wasn't just the Colts offense that was impressive, Ezequiel Astacio (2-0) picked up his second win of the year, allowing just two earned runs and three strikeouts through seven innings of work. Doug Brandt would close out the eighth inning striking out the side. And Joe Key would throw the ninth allowing two earned runs. The loss would go to Thunder starter Toro Trevino.

Offensively for the Colts, Bradley Goldsmith tallied a four hit night including two doubles and two RBI's. Hunter Jobes collected three hits with three runs scored. Nick Mahin had two hits including a double with three runs scored and an RBI. Hank Lanto singled twice while driving in two.

San Angelo and Coastal Bend will conclude their final game of the four game series tomorrow at Foster field. San Angelo leads the series two games to one. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, gates open at 6:05. The slated starters will be RHP Francisco Castillo for the Thunder, Brian Henschel will be on the mould for San Angelo. Saturday night will be Wienermania at the ballpark. Registration is $5 and will go to the Tom Green County Humane Society.
