Roadrunners Fall Late to Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas - Nelson Teilon hit a three-run walk-off homerun to help the McAllen Thunder defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 5-4 Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

With the Roadrunners (39-25) leading by two in the bottom of the ninth, Teilon hit the three-run homerun off of Edinburg closer Julio Castro to lift the Thunder (24-40) to victory.

Edinburg jumped out to the early lead in the top of the first against McAllen starter Brian Murphy. Wilmer Pino reached on a fielder's choice and then moved to second on an error, then moved to third on a stolen base. A passed ball then allowed him to score making it 1-0 Roadrunners.

McAllen answered in the bottom of the first. Craig Hertler led off the inning with a triple and then came in to score on an RBI ground out by Yasser Gomez. Later in the inning Nathan Tomaszewski hit an RBI single that score Miguel Alfonzo giving the Thunder the 2-1 lead.

The score remained the same until the top of the eighth. Osiel Flores led off with a walk and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Stantrel Smith then followed with an infield single but an errant throw allowed Flores to come in and score. With the bases loaded, a fielding error allowed Smith and Vincent Blue to score extending the Roadrunners lead 4-2.

With a two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Hertler reached after being hit by a pitch and then Gomez followed with a walk. Teilon followed with his three-run homerun giving Castro (3-1) his first loss of the season and the Thunder the 5-4 victory.

Yunier Colon (2-1) picked up the win after giving up one run, which was unearned, with one strike out.

The Roadrunners have Tuesday off before beginning an eight-game road trip where they will face Abilene, San Angelo, and Fort Worth before returning to Edinburg Baseball Stadium on August 9th.
