
Roadrunners Drop Third Straight

HARLINGEN, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners lost their third straight game after an 8-4 loss to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Thursday night at Harlingen Field.
The Roadrunners (3-6) got things started in the top of the second when Stantrel Smith was hit by a pitch. He then stole second base and moved to third on a ground ball. Gabe Memmert followed with an RBI ground out that allowed Smith to score giving Edinburg the 1-0 lead.
Adam Gordon extended Edinburg's lead to 2-0 in the top of the third with his first professional home run off of Alexander Concepcion (2-0).
The WhiteWings (6-3) tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Francisco Hernandez and David Peralta each had singles in the inning and then a wild pitch by Jorge Quintero (0-2) allowed them to move up a base. Wesley Dimitt followed with a two-run single that tied the game at two.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brandon Decker reached after getting hit by a pitch and then came into score on an RBI triple by Leivi Ventura. Hernandez then followed with a sacrifice fly driving Ventura in and giving RGV the 4-2 lead.
Dimitt was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the sixth and then stole second base. Leo Delgado then hit an RBI triple that drove in Dimitt from second. Jonathan Fernandez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Delgado to score making it a 6-2 WhiteWings lead.
C.J. Beatty got the Roadrunners within two with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh cutting RGV's lead 6-4.
The WhiteWings scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh against Edinburg's bullpen. Edgar Trejo had an RBI triple that allowed Ventura to score from first. Peralta then followed with an RBI double extending their lead to 8-4.
Edgar Martinez recorded the final out of the top of the ninth for his fourth save and giving RGV the 8-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and WhiteWings will play game two of their four-game series Friday night at Harlingen Field. Scott Wingo (1-0) is expected to face Eric Blackwell (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
