Jose Canseco to Return to Lineup
June 2, 2011 - North American League (NAmL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release
Yuma, AZ- Jose Canseco reported no problems with his strained bicep after taking batting practice before Tuesday night's game. He was ready to get in the lineup, but took advantage of the extra two days off the team had before the next scheduled game. He will be available and ready to be inserted into the starting lineup on Friday, June 3, as the Scorpions take on the Lake County Fielders.
Earlier in the month, the Scorpions played three exhibition games against the Fielders. The Lake County pitching staff may have spent the past few days figuring out their game plan when Jose comes to the plate. They gave up two homeruns in the three games to Jose Canseco. The problem is, if the Fielders decide to walk Jose Canseco, they have to deal with the Minor League Homerun Record Holder, Ozzie Canseco.
"We've already been scoring the runs we need to win," Ozzie says, "The main problem recently was our defense. It was nice to have the past few days off so our guys could sit-back and relax." Jose agreed, "It's always hard to go from the pressures of Spring Training right into the regular season the next day. That doesn't happen too often, but we could see our guys were still in the mindset of pressing on every at-bat and every play."
Even giving Ozzie a free base brings trouble for the opposing pitchers as the Scorpions lead the league with 4-players in the top-15 in regards to batting average, no other team has more than two players in the top-15. "There isn't one bad hitter on our team," Field Manager Jose Canseco says, "Once our defense gets comfortable, teams are not going to want to play us."
Thankfully, the Scorpions are on a long home stretch and have some time to find a groove defensively. They will not be on the road until June 23. The next game is against the Lake County Fielders at Desert Sun stadium. Game time is 7:35pm, on Friday, June 3.
