
Roadrunners Drop Finale to Wings

EDINBURG, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners dropped the final game of the series to the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings 5-1 Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Roadrunners worked out of jams in the first, second, third and sixth innings but the WhiteWings finally broke through in the top of the seventh. With two outs and runners at second and third, Jose Rivero hit a two-run single to left field that scored Leujum Baroso and Miguel Alfonso giving RGV the 2-0 lead.
The WhiteWings (4-4) added two more in the top of the eighth and one in the top of the ninth to push their lead to 5-0.
Edinburg (3-5) got a run in the bottom of the ninth after a fielding error allowed Derek Perren to score from third making it 5-1 in favor of RGV. Erickson Bautista got Tim Battle to foul out giving the WhiteWings the 5-1 victory as he picked up his first save of the season.
Luis Noel (1-0) got the win after pitching six scoreless innings and scattering five hits and striking out four.
Kirk Wetmore falls to 0-2 on the season after allowing one run in six and a third innings pitched. He allowed three walks and struck seven.
The Roadrunners begin a four-game series with the McAllen Thunder Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Matison Smith is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
