
Colts Score Early to Beat Abilene

Abilene, Texas --- The San Angelo Colts scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Prairie Dogs 6-3 Wednesday night at Walt Driggers Field in Abilene.
The Colts recorded four hits in the top of the first, including an RBI double by first baseman Daryl Jones and RBI singles by right fielder Jason Crosland and catcher Josh Banda. Jones, second baseman Adam De La Garza and designated hitter Cory Patton all scored.
Abilene starter Brian Smith (1-1) settled down and pitched five scoreless innings before the Colts tacked another run on in the seventh. Smith allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits through 6 2/3 innings and suffered the loss.
Colts starter Mark Willinsky (1-0) surrendered two unearned runs and struck out six batters in as many innings to pick up his first win.
With the Colts ahead 4-3 in the eighth inning, catcher Josh Banda provided a couple of insurance runs when he crushed a two-run homer down the left field line. His third home run of the year scored Crosland.
Closer Erik Draxton came on in the ninth inning and worked around a leadoff walk to earn his second save in as many nights.
The win improves San Angelo to 7-1, while the loss drops Abilene to 3-5 on the year.
The Colts welcome the Fort Worth Cats to Foster Field Thursday evening for game one of a four-game home and home series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and gates open at 6:05 p.m. It will be a $1 Beer Night, sponsored by Miller Lite.
The San Angelo Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
