Fort Worth, Texas --- The Fort Worth Cats (5-3) and the McAllen Thunder (2-6) exchanged the lead five times on Wednesday, but the Fort Worth Cats ended up on top with a 6-4 win over the McAllen Thunder.
The Fort Worth Cats took the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the victory. A wild pitch scored Randall Thorpe and gave the Fort Worth Cats the lead for good. A wild pitch scored Thorpe to give the Fort Worth Cats the lead for good.
Chuck Caufield racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Fort Worth Cats. He singled in the second and fourth innings and homered in the sixth inning.
The McAllen Thunder had no answer for Steve Barnes, who kept runners off the base paths in his appearance. Barnes held the McAllen Thunder hitless over 2 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out one.
Frank James (0-1) took the loss for the McAllen Thunder. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked one and struck out four.
The McAllen Thunder will open a four game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners on Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
