San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- Despite committing a game-high seven errors, the Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Colts, 12-6, Wednesday night at Foster Field.
Edinburg jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Roadrunners scored three runs in the first, and then four more in the second inning. In the second, Edinburg had back-to-back home runs. Centerfielder Robert Rinard crushed a three-run homer into left-centerfield, and third baseman Bunyu Maeda followed with a solo shot.
San Angelo scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning when designated hitter Kyle Nichols smashed a two-RBI homer that scored third baseman Steve Rinaudo. It was Nichols's first home run of the year.
The Roadrunners led 7-2 after just two innings, and then took a commanding 10-2 lead after the fourth. Edinburg scored two more runs to ahead 12-2 by the end of the eighth.
The Colts rallied for four unearned runs in the ninth, courtesy of four Edinburg errors, but it was not enough to overcome their large deficit.
Roadrunners' starter Drew Coffey (1-1) earned the win, surrendering two unearned runs on seven hits in five innings of work. Meanwhile, Colts' starter Frank James (0-1) lasted just three innings, giving up seven runs, four earned, on six hits for the loss.
The loss drops the Colts to 3-3, while the Roadrunners improve to 2-4 with their second straight win. Game three of this four-game series is Thursday night at Foster Field.
It will be a Thirsty Thursday, sponsored by Miller Lite. Draught beers will be just $1 all night long, courtesy of Miller Lite. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
