Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- Cameron McGuire hit his fifth home run of the season to lift the Edinburg Roadrunners over the Laredo Broncos 4-2 Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The win extends Edinburg's streak to seven games and due to a rain out in Amarillo the Roadrunners are now in sole possession of second place in the United League standings.
Miguel Martinez (5-4) picked up his fifth win of the season after he allowed two runs while scattering six hits and striking out nine in eight innings of work.
The Broncos (21-37) scored a run against Martinez in the top of the third on an RBI double to left field by Luis Ugueto that allowed Andres Santos to score from second to make it a 1-0 game in favor of Laredo.
In the bottom half of the third Cameron McGuire hit a 3-run home run to give the Roadrunners (31-27) the 3-1 advantage.
Hunter Owen extended Edinburg's lead in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to left field that drove in Carlos Hereaud from second to put the Roadrunners up 4-1.
Laredo cut the lead in half in the top of the eighth with an RBI single by Ugueto that allowed Ryan Flynn to score from second and Kelly Casares pitched a scoreless ninth for his eighth save of the season giving Edinburg their seventh straight win 4-2.
The Roadrunners and Broncos will play the third game of this four-game series Monday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Danny Rondon (4-0) is expected to face Will Palmer (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
