19-run outburst sends Dillas past Thunder 19-12

AMARILLO, TX - Runs were the story as the Amarillo Dillas and Coastal Bend Thunder combined for 31 runs, though it was the Dillas who came out on top 19-12 on Saturday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 2,739 fans.

Dillas starter Taylor Allen (4-3) got the win, despite allowing seven runs and 11 hits. Thunder starter Frank O. James (3-4) got the loss, allowing six earned in an out short of five innings. Amarillo reliever Andy Noonan pitched the last two-and-a-third innings, and retired the last seven batters for the save. Trent Lockwood went 3-4 with a triple, homerun, four runs scored and three RBI.

Amarillo would take the lead in the first inning as Keanon Simon reached on an error, stole second, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Carlos Figueroa groundout for a 1-0 lead.

After a second inning RBI groundout by the Thunder tied the game, the Dillas responded in the bottom half. Walks to Lockwood, Stantrel Smith and Eric Brown loaded the bases. Justin Wenger hit an RBI fielder's choice to retake the lead, while an error moved Brown and Wenger into scoring position. Willie James singled to left to score Brown for a 3-1 Amarillo lead.

The Thunder would climb back within one in the third with a Leivi Ventura RBI single. They would take the lead in the fourth with three runs for a 5-3 lead.

Following a fourth inning RBI double by Wenger, the Dillas broke out in the fifth inning, with five runs, including a two-run triple by Lockwood, an RBI single by Smith and another RBI triple, this time by Brown. Four more runs scored in the sixth including an 2-RBI single by Wenger for a 13-5 lead.

Coastal Bend responded with seven runs off seven hits in the seventh for a 13-12 Amarillo lead.

Amarillo would not stop scoring in the bottom half with four more runs, including the Lockwood 3-run homerun. Two more runs followed in the eighth. Noonan finished things off for the ninth to preserve the 19-12 win.

With the win, the Dillas improve to 30-27, while the Thunder fall to 24-28. Sunday, Amarillo will host Coastal Bend for the second game of a four-game series at 6:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 5:50 on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
