
Former Colt Delivers Walk Off Double in 11th

Harlingen, Texas---The San Angelo Colts (38-20) held a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning. Former Colt and current Whitewing Brian Nichols sent his tenth homerun of the season over the left field wall moving the game to extra innings. In the eleventh inning, it was Nichols this time ending the contest with a double off the center field wall, scoring Rico Santana from first base. Rio Grande Valley improved to 3-0 in extra inning ballgames defeating San Angelo 2-1.
The game remained knotted at zero until the top of the sixth inning. Bryan Frichter lined a double down the left field line to lead off the inning. Frichter then nabbed third base, it was his third steal of the contest. With one out in the frame, and the infield in, Aaron Cone sent a single through the box scoring Frichter. San Angelo secured a 1-0 lead.
That lead held strong until the bottom of the ninth inning. Chandler Barnard stepped atop the mound working towards his first complete game of the season. With one out, Brian Nichols sent a line drive over the wall in left field tying the game at one.
In the top of the eleventh inning, San Angelo put runners at first and second base with nobody out. Relief pitcher Wendy Rosa, who was in his fifth inning of work, retired the next three Colts to keep the game tied at one.
In the eleventh inning, Nichols struck again. The inning began with an error off the glove of Aaron Cone putting Rico Santana on base. With Santana at First, Nichols sent a shot off the center field wall. The relay throw was not in time as Santana scored all the way from first base, the Whitewings grabbed the extra inning contest with a 2-1 victory.. Rio Grande Valley leads the four series two games to none.
Colts starter Chandler Barnard (9-2) reached a no-decision. Barnard delivered 8.1 innings of work, allowing one earned run, and five strikeouts. Chace Vacek pitched .2 innings without allowing a run. Jameson Maj (1-1) was the losing pitcher. Maj went an inning allowing a hit and one earned run. The winning pitcher was Wendy Rosa (2-2). The right hander went five innings in relief, allowing just two hits including no runs while striking out nine.
