Harlingen - United League Baseball's Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings announced today that closer Julio Santana is the Johnny's True Value Player of the Month for July as voted on by the fans at Harlingen Field and at the Johnny's True Value location in Harlingen.
In 10 relief appearances, Santana racked up eight saves in eight attempts with an ERA of 0.84. In 10.2 innings, he allowed one run on eight hits and three walks while striking out six. Opponents hit .211 against Santana.
Santana lowered his ERA from 2.57 entering July to 1.53 at the end of the month. He recorded saves in his last eight outings of July.
Overall, Santana is 0-1 with a league-best 15 saves and a 2.49 ERA. In 19 games, Santana has pitched 21.2 innings, allowing 20 hits and six walks to go with 17 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .247 against the right-hander.
