St. George RoadRunners News Release
EDMONTON - The RoadRunners (1-1, 26-16) scored two runs in the top half of the seventh inning off GBL all-star and Capitals closer Jason Pearson to snare a 4-3 comeback win Thursday night in Edmonton. The victory helped St. George avoid a three-game series sweep at Telus Field.
Luis Gonzalez (5-4) battled through six innings but was made a winner thanks to the offense in the final frame. He allowed three runs, only two earned, on six hits while striking out four. Bartolome Fortunato wrapped up the game with two strikeouts to notch a league-leading 11th save.
Offensively, A.J. Valentine went 4-for-4 and scored the game winner off Cody Nowlin's RBI single. Jose Rodriguez tied the game in the fateful seventh with a seeing-eye ground ball hit in to right field.
Edmonton (2-1, 25-19) led most of the game thanks to two runs in the first and an RBI single by Jorge Cortes in the fifth.
St. George posted single runs in the second and fifth innings. Juan Serrano walked with the bases loaded off starter Chris Little while Cody Nowlin later plated Angel Sanchez with a sacrifice fly.
The RoadRunners smacked 11 hits paced by Valentine's four. Sanchez, Rodriguez and Nowlin each had a pair. The Caps were held to six hits.
