Caps Split Double-Dip With St. George

Edmonton, AB - The Capitals completed their three-game series with the St. George RoadRunners on a beautiful Thursday evening. Due to heavy rainfall throughout the first two days the teams were forced to play a doubleheader to wrap up the series.

In the first game, the Caps won a close game 4-2. Matt Ceriani led the offense with two hits and Mitch Graham drove in three runs. Ceriani and Graham both had doubles while Joey Gomes hit a long home run over the left field wall.

On the mound, David Moraga (1-2, 5.82 ERA) picked up the win, pitching into the fifth inning of the seven-inning game. Mac Nelson (4-1, 7.64 ERA) took the complete game loss for the RoadRunners. Jason Pearson closed out the game for the Caps to earn his eighth save of the season.

In game two, the Caps lost a thriller 4-3. Leading for most of the game, the Capitals gave up two runs to St. George in the top of the seventh inning for the difference. Jason Pearson (1-2, 2.25 ERA), attempting to close out both ends of the doubleheader, took the tough loss. Luis Gonzalez (5-4, 5.95 ERA) received the win for the RoadRunners and Bartolome Fortunado received his eleventh save.

Up next for the Capitals will be a three-game weekend series with the Victoria Seals beginning tonight at 7:00pm at TELUS Field. This game was originally scheduled as an 8:00pm start but was moved up one hour in order to comply with city ordinances.

The weekend will feature various themes including Fireworks Friday, Christmas in July on Saturday and Bark in the Park on Sunday. On Saturday fans are encouraged to bring a toy donation and have their picture taken with Santa and his reindeer. On Sunday dog owners will have a chance to take in a game with their canine pet with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Edmonton Humane Society.
