
Roadcap Returns to Manage BlueClaws in 2008

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, class- A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, have announced that Steve Roadcap will return to Lakewood for his second season as the BlueClaws manager. Greg Legg, the Lakewood BlueClaws manager for their inaugural season, has been named hitting coach while Dave Lundquist has been appointed pitching coach for the 2008 season.
Roadcap, 47, led the BlueClaws to a 69-65 record in 2007, his first season as Lakewood's skipper. In his 16th season as a minor league manager, he picked up his 900th career victory on August 27 against Hagerstown. This will be his third season in the Phillies system after spending 2006 with the Batavia Muckdogs of the NYPL.
The Pottsville, PA native coached and managed in the Chicago Cubs organization from 1987-98. After leading Rockford to the playoffs in 1995 he was named the best managing prospect in the Midwest League by Baseball America. Following his time with the Cubs, the current Elkview, WV resident joined the Seattle Mariners player development staff from 1999- 2004 handling different roles that included the club's minor league catching coordinator for the last two seasons.
Legg, 47, was named the first manager In BlueClaws history on December 13, 2000 and led Lakewood to a 60-79 record in 2001. Last season he managed the Phillies short-season affiliate, the Williamsport Crosscutters that went 34-42. Like Roadcap a year ago, many of Legg's players in Williamsport are expected to make up the BlueClaws roster.
A resident of Peckville, PA, has been in the Phils organization since being drafted by the club in 1982. He played briefly for the Phillies in 1986 and 1987 appearing in a total of 14 games and boasting a career average in the majors of .405 (9-for-22). He began his coaching career with Clearwater (A) in 1994 and has managed since 1997 including two years in the NYPL with the Batavia MuckDogs (1997 & 1999). He spent the previous two seasons as manager of the Clearwater Threshers (A).
Lundquist, 34, enters his first season in the Phillies system and fourth season as a minor league coach. This will be his third consecutive season in the South Atlantic League after spending 2006-07 in Hickory. In 2007, he was the pitching coach for the second-half Northern Division Champion Crawdads. He began his coaching career with Williamsport (then Pittsburgh affiliate) in 2005.
The right-handed pitcher went 1-2 with a 7.92 ERA (44.1IP/39ER) in 37 major league relief appearances with the Chicago White Sox(1999) and the San Diego Padres (2001-02). The native of Beverly, MA, was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 1993 June draft.
